Good news

We're planning a trip to Italy, so soon I'll have something to blog about besides London! Whohoo!

A cold day at the zoo

On Saturday the sun was out so we decided to head to the zoo. We have yet to go to the zoo on a nice, warm day, but because she sun was shining, a lot of people were out and about and the animals at the zoo were also out and about.

We started our day off with a photo op on top of blustery (COLD!!!!) Primrose Hill. We talked about how nice it's going to be in the summer...

At the entrance of the zoo.

Evie really was only interested in the aquarium the last time we came to the zoo, but now that she can run around and is more aware of her surroundings, she really enjoys it. I tried to explain to her that even though it looked like him, that wasn't actually a picture of her Dad.

Mesmerized by a singing African bird.

...and by a monkey that looked like a skunk.

I didn't realize that Evie was wary of these gorilla statues, so I plopped her down right next to one for a picture (after this one was taken) and she started to cry. Lesson learned! It reminded me of Buster, who used to see something like a garden gnome and freeze until he realized or was shown that it was just a statue.

Some fabulous orangutans.

It was kind of depressing to see the gorillas. They were in their inside area because of the cold weather and they looked bored and listless

Their monkey friends, though, were full of energy and were out for blood. Right after this picture was taken, the monkey spotted Evie. His eyes narrowed and he slowly moved over to the side of the glass where we were standing. Then he threw himself, teeth bared and claws out, full force, at the glass. He did it twice, screeching, scaring Evie and us and invoking screams of delight from the kids and other people who were watching. A vicious monkey lunging at a baby through glass, again seemed depressing to me (but I'm so glad that there was a huge piece of glass between us) and we were worried that Evie was going to be scared of monkeys for the rest of her life, so we decided to move on to friendlier animals.

...like penguins,

...and pigeons,

...and plastic horses on the merry go round(Evie was obviously having a blast on the merry go round).

Then I got so cold that I couldn't take it anymore and we left. It was a fun day despite the frigid temperatures and the angry monkeys and I'm looking forward to the zoo in the summer!!!!
