Not so scary, after all

Scary Christmas Card 2008

*Thanks to Kate, who took this and many pictures used in the previous blog.

Christmas 2007

Fortunately, our Christmas was a lot more exciting than our New Years and with all our family around we had plenty to do!

We were VERY happy to be home.

Our first stop on our whirlwind Christmas holiday was Houston! We stayed a night with Jack and Mindy and there was much rejoicing (and we managed to stay awake until 8:30!) There appear to be no pictures from our first night in America, but we can confirm that the Tetrazini was delicious and there was lots of parental love involved. We also slept wonderfully...until 4am. And then went back to bed around 7:30 am, so that we were pretty rested for our travels to TALLULAH!!!

When we got the Jackson airport, we were met by the entire family, except for Will, who wasn't there yet.

He arrived soon after and Kate was at the ready:

It was so great to be on the farm again:

Jim cooked a delicious lemon merengue pie, despite his hatred of the stuff. He took his chef role very seriously:

As his dutiful assistant, I also was very commited:

(The pie was delicious!)

We decorated two trees:

And wrapped some presents with some special assistance from Emma:

Mom cooked up a storm and Dad made the drinks:

Our cousins Sam, Jenny and Suzanne came over for brunch and many pictures were taken:

Someone had the brilliant idea for us to pose in a cypress tree...but the happy fireants that ate Kate's and Jim's feet got the last laugh:

Dad lit the outside fire. I did not melt my shoes, but Bo (the dog) did eat a couple of sparks.

On the night before Christmas, Mom snuggled with Scooter. Oh, that's every night:

On Christmas morning, Jim was up with the eight cats. Santa brought them breakfast.

Our favorite neighborhood rapper, J-Spot stopped by for presents.

Christmas kisses were in order:

And the stockings were full of exciting and sniffable things:

Dad/Santa handed out presents with help from his elf, Andy:

The top presents were as follows:
Will got an ipod (I can't really tell if this is a picture of the ipod or not...but for the sake of the blog, we will pretend it is).

Kate got an ipod, too! But we thought our Grecian glass cat was pretty cool, too.

Dad got a very sweet collection of pictures of his past and current dogs (taken by Jim):

I don't know if the flower decorated rubber gloves were Mom's favorite present (I suspect the Bose radio Dad gave her ranked higher), but since we gave them to her, I am including it on this blog. (For the record, the gloves are not a symbol of what we expect of Mom...although she does seem to wash more than her fair share of dishes while we are home.)

Andy was a little disappointed when he thought all he got was pants, underwear and socks for Christmas (and a kick ass New Yorker game from us!) but then Kate presented him with a personalized present from Bruce Springsteen--tickets to his show in Houston!

Jim's present was craftily hidden by Chowder, who just happened to climb into one of Mom's favorite bowls (not allowed) for a little nap. The present was under the rose petals in the bowl.

J Spot was PSYCHED about his new I touch.

I got a new camera! And this was the first picture I took with it:

And a few more.
An exciting game of Apples to Apples:

Kate showing off her Cla-vah-jay:

The reason Buster is a little chubbier than last year:

The trip to the airport (boohoo):

TEX MEX and our family back in Texas:

And a very serious picture with Olivia and Mendy:

Fabulous PJs for fabulous women:

Olivia and I experiment with the new camera's self-portrait taking abilities:

Jim and Jenna bonded this year. He remembered that she didn't like Scary Monster Jim and how they are best buddies. The whole time we were there we heard her calling "Uncle Jeeyum! Uncle Jeeyum!"

And, of course, he still has the special bond with Olivia:

As usual, Mendy looked flawless in her PJs.

We were so happy to see Scott and Terry:

I was WRONG to challenge them to some Nascar trivia. I went down. Big time. (but I swear that someone told me that Dale Earnhart was from Vicksburg. For the record, he's from South Carolina.)

We took in some culture at the Menil and the Cy Twombley Museum (otherwise known as "The Scribble Scratch Museum") across the street. As usual, we showed much respect for the artwork and Olivia remarked on Jenna's artistic abilities and how we should exploit her.

And then we saw the parking lot that Jim designed at the Byzantine Chapel (exciting as usual. This time Olivia got to experience the awe-inspiringness of it all.)

Jim's Mom was SO SO happy to see him.

We were so happy to be home and with our whole family--both sides!

But Finchley was really glad when we got home. He had been patiently waiting for the suitcase aka his personal bed to return.
