First country walk of 2008--with embarassing video footage (and pictures)!

In an effort to take the edge off the jet lag, we decided to go for a cold, grey country walk. Jim picked the route, a flat, relatively easy walk in the Chilterns. We took the tube to Chesham, explored the local town a bit and then headed out. Just after taking this picture, Jim fell down. We had been walking for about 8 minutes. He's always very careful to protect his camera and because it was muddy, he didn't get hurt. As usual, I laughed and took pictures of him. He didn't really think it was that funny...but this horse did. And so did the man we saw before we met the horse. It was cold. And we were hungry (this was a 10 mile hike afterall). But, sadly--and this was something that we should have anticipated--the pubs in the small villages we walked through were closed since it was almost a holiday (2nd of January). Sometimes around here, holidays get extended a little...which is very nice, except when you are cold and hungry in the middle of nowhere!
Jim forlornly eats his measley clementine and ginger snaps at the first unopen pub. Santa mocks him in the background. My hunger and trudging through field after field started to affect my sanity and I began to sing animated camp songs over the hills of England: This cow was really embarassed. FINALLY we made it back to town where there was a pub open and we ate some delicious pies and had some delicious wine and delicious beer. We were happy.
The End
